About the journal

The Études platoniciennes are devoted entirely to current issues in research on Plato and the platonic tradition. It provides:

  • a selection of relevant studies on a subject (some theme or work of the platonic tradition) of special relevance for current research

  • the yearly issue of the « Bulletin Platonicien », with its reviews of new books on Plato and the platonic tradition

  • the « Bibliographie Platonicienne », documenting all publications in the field

The Études platoniciennes  have been published once a year since 2004, by Les Belles Lettres (Paris). Starting from 2013 (Études platoniciennes X), they are published exclusively online. Proceeding from the Société d’Etudes Platoniciennes, whose activity in the platonic field of studies consists in seminars, workshops and symposium, the Études platoniciennes welcome thematic issues from seminars and papers as varia.

At a time when platonic studies, whether in philology, history or the history of philosophy, are thriving throughout the world, the Études platoniciennes encourage a pluralism of languages, disciplinary approaches and methods of interpretation. The international editorial board of the series carefully selects studies, published in their original language, that reflect the widest diversity of readings of platonic works. The « Bulletin Platonicien » provides reviews of books stemming from this variety of approaches, redacted in five languages by reviewers of diverse nationalities.
